Finding Patience Thru Gratitude

This morning, as I washed dishes and listened to the sound of my daughter’s little voice calling, “Mommy, Mommy, more please, more please!” I felt that familiar wave of frustration rising. She was eating yogurt topped with frozen blueberries, one of her favorite treats, and as soon as the last blueberry was gone, she couldn’t wait for more.

At first, I thought, Can’t she just wait a second? But then, as I turned toward her eager, expectant face, something shifted. I realized she wasn’t being impatient out of defiance or neediness. She was just excited. She was thrilled by something as simple as frozen blueberries. And when I gave her more, her joy was so pure, so overflowing, that I felt it fill the room.

It stopped me in my tracks. I thought, what if we lived like that? What if every day, we met life with that same sense of wonder and anticipation? What if instead of rushing through moments, we let gratitude take the lead?

Because maybe patience doesn’t always come from stillness. Maybe it begins in gratitude, in recognizing how much good there already is, even as we wait for what’s next. My daughter wasn’t impatient because she lacked something. She was overwhelmed by joy for what she had already tasted. And I think there’s something holy about that.

How often do we lose our patience with God because we forget the beauty of what He’s already given us? How often do we focus on what’s missing instead of thanking Him for the frozen blueberries, the small blessings that make life so sweet?

Today, I’m choosing to see those little interruptions, those tiny moments of chaos, as invitations to gratitude. Because through gratitude, patience grows. Through thankfulness, peace follows.

And sometimes, all it takes to remember that is a small child, a spoonful of yogurt, and a few frozen blueberries.
