Luke Chapter 10
Luke 10 begins with Jesus sending out seventy-two followers, giving them authority and reminding them that the kingdom of God is near. Their mission reveals that spreading the gospel is not just for a few, it is for every believer willing to go.
In one of the most beloved teachings in Scripture, Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan. A priest and a Levite pass by a wounded man, but a Samaritan someone considered an outsider shows compassion. Jesus teaches that loving God also means loving our neighbor through action, generosity and mercy.
Later, Jesus visits Martha and Mary. Martha is distracted by serving while Mary chooses to sit at Jesus’ feet. Jesus gently reminds her that devotion comes before activity. Spending time with Him is the “better portion,” the thing that truly nourishes our soul.
This chapter shows us a faith that serves with compassion and rests in Jesus’ presence. We are called both to love others actively and to love God deeply.
Reflection Verse: “Go and do likewise.” Luke 10:37
Prayer Prompt: Lord, give me a heart of compassion for others and a spirit that chooses Your presence above everything else. Teach me to love my neighbor and abide in You daily. Amen.
