Luke Chapter 22
Luke 22 draws us into the final hours before the cross, where love and sacrifice meet in profound ways. At the Last Supper, Jesus shares bread and wine with His disciples, fully aware of the betrayal and suffering that await Him. In this moment, He establishes the new covenant, offering Himself as the ultimate sacrifice.
Even as betrayal unfolds, Jesus remains focused on love. He washes His disciples’ feet, teaches them about servanthood, and invites them to remember Him through communion. This is not a farewell marked by bitterness, but by intentional love. Jesus gives Himself freely, choosing obedience over escape.
In the garden of Gethsemane, we see the weight of this choice. Jesus prays in anguish, fully human in His sorrow, yet fully obedient in His surrender. “Not my will, but Yours be done.” This prayer reveals the depth of His love and the cost of redemption.
Luke 22 reminds us that salvation was not rushed or accidental. It was chosen in love, sealed through obedience, and carried out with unwavering purpose.
Reflection Verse: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood.” Luke 22:20
Prayer Prompt: Lord, thank You for choosing obedience and love on my behalf. Teach me to surrender to Your will.
